The 2018 Kia Sorento Near Santa Fe, NM: More Than a Crossover

The 2018 Kia Sorento near Santa Fe, NM was designed to fit the niche between the five-passenger crossover and the full-size family hauler, and we believe the 2018 Kia Sorento does that admirably. The Sorento offers more practicality and space than its rivals, but it's less cumbersome and cheaper to drive than the biggest SUVs. For this year, the Kia Sorento's optional and standard feature lists have undergone minor changes. Some of these updates are explained below.

What We Recommend

The Kia Sorento EX has a V6 engine, seating for seven, and a list of features that are rare even on bigger vehicles. Adding a few luxury touches won't break the bank for most customers who visit Santa Fe Kia dealers. We recommend the V6 over the four-cylinder as it offers great fuel economy while providing enough power for most driving conditions.

Features and Trim Levels

The 2018 Sorento can be bought in five trim levels, from L to SX Limited, and there are three engine options from which to choose. The LX and the L come with a standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine that puts out 185hp and 178 lb. ft. of torque. Only the Sorento EX comes with the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder, which provides 240hp and 260 lb. ft. of torque. Step up to the EX, LX, SX or SX Limited to get the 3.3L V6 (290hp, 252 lb. ft).

  • Standard features on the base model include 17" alloys, a backup camera, drive modes, an adjustable driver's seat, Bluetooth connectivity, an audio system with satellite radio, a USB port, and a CD player.
  • The LX model gets everything from the L and adds a noise-dampening windshield, two additional USB ports, and roof rails. It also has optional all-wheel drive, a windshield de-icer, and seating for seven. The Convenience package adds rear parking sensors, heated front seating, dual climate controls, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
  • The EX gets everything from the Convenience package and adds a turbo four-cylinder engine, 18" alloys, a powered, hands-free lift gate, keyless entry and ignition, power mirrors, leather seating, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Advance Touring Package brings LED interior lighting, a 110V outlet, and a panoramic sunroof.
  • The SX comes with a V6 engine and upgraded steering, 19" wheels, upgraded trim, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, an 8" touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, and upgraded audio. The Advanced Technology is an option that adds xenon headlights, ventilated seating, and more.
  • The SX Limited comes with everything mentioned above, plus 19" chrome wheels, upgraded leather, heated seats in the second row, a wood-clad steering wheel, and the Advanced Technology Package.

All these trim levels are available at Kia dealerships near Santa Fe. We invite customers to stop by the showroom to see what's new from Kia.

Driving

The three-row SX V6 feels much heavier than the two-row SXL simply because it is. Handling and stopping distances are slightly diminished, and the V6 engine adds a quickness that's missing from the 2.0 version. It can go from 0-60 in a respectable 7.6 seconds, which is good for crossover vehicles in this market segment. The braking system provides adequate stopping power and unobtrusive operation during daily usage. Steering is accurate in the turns, and it inspires confidence in most drivers. If a driver values power above all else, the V6 is the obvious choice, especially when it's mated to the six-speed automatic transmission.

Comfort

The 2018 Sorento is a comfortable crossover with a quiet cabin and a smooth, controlled ride. The front seats' firm padding is a definite plus, and the well-shaped seats in the second row recline. The Sorento has one of the best rides of any non-luxury crossover. It glides right over rough pavement, providing a premium feel. Only a small amount of road and wind noise is heard in the cabin, and it's easy to hold a phone conversation at highway speeds.

Interior

The cabin of the 2018 Kia Sorento near Santa Fe NM is well-planned, and it's competitive with others in its class. Its touchscreen infotainment center is functional and attractive, and other controls are logically arranged. The Sorento's low entry height and wide-opening doors make it easy to get into the second and third rows. Front-row seating is roomy, and the reclining second-row seats add comfort and versatility. The slim A-pillars and windshield allow for great visibility, especially in tight spots. The materials are competitive for the class, soft-touch surfaces abound, and simulated stitching lends a classy feel to some panels.

Utility

The Kia Sorento's third-row seats fold easily via straps on the back, and the second-row seats can be folded with trunk-mounted handles. When these seats are folded, cargo capacity is more than sufficient.

While the Sorento isn't right for everyone, it's perfect for those who want a vehicle that works in a variety of situations. Call us to schedule a test drive, or visit Kia Sorento dealerships to see the full line of Kia vehicles.
