We recently had the pleasure of test driving the new 2018 Kia Sorento near Rio Rancho and Albuquerque, and the experience has left our entire team hungry for more. Between the spacious cabin, elegant lines, and numerous safety features, this vehicle seems personalized to offer comfort, utility, and unparalleled luxury in one perfect package.

Style and Comfort

The Sorento has adjustable seating for six, with fold down second-row seating for easy access to the far back. Both the first and second-row seats are heated, and all positions have three-point seatbelts for safety and security. The Nappa Leather seat trim and interior upholstery is designed by YES Essentials. It dries quickly, is stain resistant, and helps eliminate odors for any messy accidents that may occur.

When we initially climbed into the 2018 Kia Sorento, each of us immediately recognized that careful consideration had been taken to accentuate the driver-focused features. The heated steering wheel and 14 point power adjusted driver’s seat means the car fits like a glove. The integrated memory system for the external mirrors and seat position let each driver store our setting adjustments and return to them later.

One of our favorite features though was the panoramic sunroof with power sunshade. Front and back separated glass, with motorized glare control and adjustable angle, lets you customize both the amount of light the back gets and the amount of wind that enters the cabin. This is a truly great feature for long trips.

With three engine types available, driving the Kia Sorento near Rio Rancho means approaching the road on your terms. The fuel efficient 2.4 liter, 4-cylinder delivers exceptional fuel economy, while the 2.0 liter, turbo engine offers balanced performance without sacrificing efficiency. But, if power is what you crave, the 3.3 liter V6 delivers, offering a 5,000-pound towing capacity.

Within each of these three engines, three more variable modes give drivers a completely customized driving experience. The driver can select from Normal, Eco, and Sport modes while driving, letting drivers tailor the experience and journey to their specific needs. Normal mode offers a balance of power and fuel efficiency. Eco keeps fuel consumption low for longer trips. And, Sport puts more power and handling in your hands for the times you need that extra control and performance.

A dynamic all-wheel-drive system makes driving the 2018 Kia Sorrento near Rio Rancho safe and delivers performance that you can trust. The electronic stability control (ESC) keeps the vehicle on course when road conditions become treacherous. The Traction Control System (TCS) keeps the wheels from spinning uncontrollably in the event that the car loses traction.

The Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) helps control braking, front to rear, based on carried weight and load position, while the Brake Assist System (BAS) automatically increases braking pressure in emergencies. Autonomous Emergency Braking automatically applies the brakes if it detects a risk of collision while moving.

We found the Lane Departure Warning system to be very helpful, notifying the driver with either visual or audio cues if we started to veer from the lane we were in. The Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) uses radar to maintain a safe level of distance between the vehicle and any in front of us. The Blind-Spot detection system alerted us when objects were present that did not register in our normal field of vision.

Beyond this, the optional surround view monitor gives a birds-eye view of the vehicle thanks to four exterior cameras mounted around the car. Finding a parking spot for the 2018 Kia Sorento near Rio Rancho is much easier with the Rear Parking Assist System (RPAS). It uses sonar sensors to help alert you if you are approaching other vehicles or objects, while the Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) keeps the Sorento stationary while starting motion from an incline.

And, while safety and performance are both critical, let’s not forget the creature comforts. When traveling with family or friends, you want to make sure that there are enough chargers for everyone's tablets and phones. When we took the Sorento out for a test drive, we were happy to note the cabin came equipped with up to eight outlets. There were two USB rapid charging ports, a 110v inverter and four 12v outlets, an AUX/USB port, and everything was tied together with Kia's UVO hands-free infotainment system. This let us operate the Bluetooth connection from a phone using Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The dynamic surround sound was unbelievable—clear and crisp from every seat in the vehicle.
