What to Expect for the 2023 Kia Niro EV near Santa Fe NM

The Kia Niro EV debuted for the 2019 model year as the company’s first EV built from the ground up and NOT based on a traditional (gasoline-powered) model. Four years later, the second-generation 2023 Kia Niro EV near Santa Fe NM arrives with more room, more technology, and bolder styling than its forerunner.

Although it began as Kia’s biggest EV star, the new Kia EV6 has overtaken the Niro as the company’s flagship electric vehicle. That’s okay, though, because the Niro EV can now focus on being a more affordable choice and a significant rival to other EVs like the Chevy Bolt, VW ID.4, and the Nissan Leaf.

Interior Style

The 2023 Niro EV was redesigned with a larger and more premium cabin with an entirely different look than the prior model and is styled for quality and comfort. The refreshed interior has plenty of curved and angled surfaces that blend well, creating a pleasing visual flow from the dashboard to the door panels. The touchscreen and instrument panel are nicely integrated into the dash, adding to the smooth aesthetic.

In keeping with the greener nature of the Niro, Kia made the interior 100% vegan, and used sustainable materials such as eucalyptus leaves in the seats and recycled wallpaper in the headliner to reduce this EV’s environmental impact.

The redesigned crossover is 2.5 inches longer than the old model, so you’ll get a somewhat compact vehicle with an ample space inside. The 2023 Kia Niro EV near Santa Fe NM has more head and legroom in front and back than the Chevy Bolt and the Nissan Leaf. Along the same lines, you’ll get 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and almost 64 cubes with the rear seats folded down, again beating out the competition and giving you loads of room to pack in all the fun you can.

Safety and Driver Assist Technology

With the appearance of one uninterrupted screen, the 10.25-inch touchscreen display and the 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster share the same housing, giving the dash a sleek and futuristic look. A user-friendly interface with easy menu layouts and a quick-responding touchscreen makes utilizing the system a breeze.

Wireless phone charging and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto come standard on all trims. Plenty of USB ports are scattered throughout the cabin, including one USB-C and two USB-A ports in the front and two USB-A ports for the rear, which are integrated into the seatbacks. The well-placed front USB ports and phone tray make plugging in for charging easy, which combats the lack of wireless charging.

Many safety/driver-assist features come standard on the Niro EV, including the usual forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, auto emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Also standard are the rear occupant alert, safe exit warning, and blind-spot collision avoidance to help you exit parallel parking spaces more safely.

There’s even more standard tech on every Niro, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and navigation-based curve prediction. You can’t get that from the standard systems of Toyota and Honda! Opt for Kia’s Highway Driving Assist II system, and you’ll get auto lane centering for highway driving along with a machine-learning function that adapts its responses to your driving style.

2023 Kia Niro EV near Santa Fe NM: Power and Performance

The new Niro EV has more power than its hybrid and PHEV versions. A single electric motor and 64.8-kWh battery motivates the Niro, sending 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Although the Niro isn’t as fast out the starting gate as the Kia EV6, its get-up-and-go is plenty quick for getting around in everyday traffic.

Don’t worry about range because the 2023 Niro EV will get about 253 miles per charge, which is 14 miles more than last year’s model. You’ll need only 45 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80% when connected to a DC fast charger. And to help preserve range in colder temps, an optional heat pump and battery warmer are available.
