Exterior Styling
Last year, the 2021 model was redesigned to begin its fourth generation, so the new exterior is still fresh. It’s a bold and grownup look, reflecting the Kia brand’s huge gains made in the last few years.
Only two trims are offered, with the S being the most affordable. This version comes standard with roof rails in a satin chrome finish, 17-inch alloy rims, and wheel arches and body cladding in matte black. The higher EX trim adds LED fog lights, a gloss black radiator surround, and a gloss black rear spoiler.

Interior Comfort
Looking as though it could’ve come from a luxury car a few years back, the pleasing dashboard brings an elegant vibe to the cabin of the Sorento Hybrid. A generously sized 10.25-inch touchscreen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel also add to the upscale feel.

The 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid has seating for six, with two in each row. Standard-equipped captain’s chairs and 40 inches of legroom provide maximum comfort for the passengers in the second row. This row’s seats are also foldable, opening up lots of space for hauling items. Since the Sorento has a shorter wheelbase than Kia’s other three-seater, the Telluride, the third row is cramped for adults but perfect for kids.
There are 12.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back row, which expands to 38.5, then 75.5 cubic feet as you fold down the third then middle rows. Surprisingly, these numbers are the same as the regular, non-hybrid Sorento, which means you don’t have to compromise roominess for the extra hardware that comes with a hybrid.

Even though so much is said about horsepower in vehicles, it’s torque that gets us going. Torque is the thrust you feel when you accelerate from a green light or “put the pedal to the metal.” Horsepower is more critical when you’re trying to achieve top speed. Torque is what you want when merging into traffic or passing on the highway.
The 258 lb-ft of torque made by the Sorento Hybrid (from the gasoline engine working with the electric motor) is impressive for a family SUV. You’ll have no worries about getting up to speed to merge or pass with this amount of oomph, but your fuel economy still works out to about 37 mpg. Almost too good to be true! And the Sorento Hybrid does this in a very civilized way. The switches from gasoline to electric momentum are nearly imperceptible.
This refinement isn’t just set aside for the drivetrain, either. The excellent suspension absorbs bumps without being too soft, and the steering has the perfect amount of heft. And when it’s equipped with AWD, there’s even a setting for snow mode.
